Renown Health announced the completion of two major capital investment projects. Both are focused on patient care areas…Phase one of two planned renovations for the Renown Rehabilitation Hospital just wrapped up with the completion of 33 newly refurbished patient suites. The $1.55M investment is the first of two major investments planned for the facility…Also announced was the recent completion of a $3.39M renovation of 24 Labor and Delivery Suites. This investment follows a $3.45M renovation of three L&D operating rooms last year.
- 10th National Prescription Drug Take-Back -Area Prescription Drug Round Up This Saturday (ktvn.com)
September 26th,..local and federal agencies will once again partner together to sponsor the Prescription Drug Round Up event in Washoe County. Since the first event in the fall of 2009, the Round Ups in Washoe County have collected nearly 1.5 million prescription pills. More than 210,000 of those pills were in categories that are commonly diverted and abused, such as painkillers, depressants and stimulants.

Reno Gazette-Journal filed a lawsuit Friday against the city of Sparks in an effort to compel them to release the names of medical marijuana business licensees...RGJ believes transparency in this matter is in the public’s interest…legal challenge is based on the belief that transparency in government…should prevail…lawsuit comes after an RGJ reporter filed a public records request with the city of Sparks for the business licenses related to medical marijuana facilities…The documents returned to the RGJ, however, included redacted names associated with the business licensees...Sparks'...assistant city attorney argued he was upholding state confidentiality laws protecting people involved with the marijuana industry.

Nevada Health CO-OP is struggling to the end…Nevada Division of Insurance…filed a petition in Clark County District Court to place the CO-OP into a conservation-rehabilitation receivership. If the court grants the petition, the division would take control of the CO-OP's assets, distribution of funds and administration… CO-OP was created by the federal Affordable Care Act...It borrowed $65.9 million from the federal government to get off the ground…It has not made profits to pay back the loans: The CO-OP reported a $19.3 million operating loss in 2014, and losses of $22.7 million from January through June…It's the fourth of 23 Obamacare CO-OPs to fail nationwide.

Encouraging results from a drug trial to reduce agitation often felt by Alzheimer's patients and led by the director (Dr. Jeffrey Cummings) of the Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health in Las Vegas were published…Journal of the American Medical Association…study tested the drug AVP-923 in participants with Alzheimer's disease and moderate-to-severe agitation…drug's success so far in the DM/Q trial will prompt a clinical phase…"The effects from the DM/Q trial were remarkable and one of the strongest we've ever seen," said… director of the Ruvo center, who led the study. "Usually it takes at least three weeks to see a change, but in this case, our participants started experiencing benefits within one week."
- School of Medicine and Renown Health partner to expand Renown Pediatrics Medical Group (medicine.nevada.edu)
Clinical integration aims to improve pediatric care in northern Nevada..School of Medicine's pediatrics office…has joined the Renown Medical Group. The change was effective on Sept. 1, 2015 and follows the 2014 partnership agreement...School of Medicine pediatricians will remain employed by the medical school. They will see patients under a professional services agreement with Renown, while Renown assumes responsibility for the administrative staff, mid-level practitioners, office space, equipment, scheduling and billing.
